Police have issued an appeal for help to identify a body washed up on a beach in Hampshire.

The man was found dead near Eastern Parade in Southsea, Portsmouth, at 6.39am on Tuesday.

Part of the beach and seafront were cordoned off for police to make inquiries. But they have been unable to identify him – and are asking for help from the public.

Detectives believe he was aged between 20 and 30 and is described as 6ft tall and bald.

He was found wearing a maroon Barbour jacket, grey Moschino Milano jogging bottoms and black Nike running-style trainers, they added.

Detective Sergeant Samantha Hockley, of Hampshire Police, said: “We believe he was in the water for a short amount of time before being brought in by the tide. Therefore, he may not have been missing for long and his family and friends may not have realised yet.

“If a friend or family member, who matches this description, is missing, then we want to hear from you as we continue our investigation.”
