Police investigating the murder of a man near a London Tube station almost 40 years ago have made an arrest.
Anthony Littler, 45, was found with “catastrophic” head injuries near East Finchley Tube station shortly after midnight on 1 May 1984.
His murder was never solved, despite extensive inquiries at the time and further investigations in 1993 and 2013.
Police issued a new appeal earlier this week, with officers believing an assault in the same area three days before the murder could be linked.
On Sunday night, police said they had arrested a 58-year-old man, who has been bailed until a date in January.
Detective chief inspector Neil John, who is leading the investigation for the Metropolitan Police, said: “This arrest comes just four days after our latest appeal, and I would like to thank everyone who has already come forward with information.
“However, we still need to speak with anyone who may have witnessed the events leading up to Anthony’s murder.”

Mr Littler’s cousin Tricia McClure described him as “lovely, kind and gentle man who wouldn’t have hurt anyone”.
“It is heartbreaking to our family that this happened to him,” she added.
